Healthy Choices at Local Restaurants
The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar, The Summit
Today I visited The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar, one of Birmingham's newer restaurant establishments. Its menu is multiple pages long so I initially assumed the quality of food would be compromised. Boy was I wrong! Let's start with the sliders...
Here's the statement at the top of the Burger portion of their menu:
"All of our burgers are made from 1/2 pound of all natural beef, turkey, lamb or bison, that were humanely raised and NEVER, EVER given hormones or antibiotics. In addition, we source local ingredients when possible."
The Jalapeno BLT burger had crunchy jalepeno, a large fresh slice of tomato, plus mixed greens. The Mediterranean Lamb included lettuce, tomato, feta, and refreshing cucumber. The Apple, Berry, Brie Turkey Burger is self-explanatory and tasted like Thanksgiving all in one bite. All of my sliders were healthy, lean and gluten free (including the impressive bun!)
Next, the sushi. On the left is the Mrs. Woodbury's with Premium tuna, cucumber, green onion inside, topped with premium salmon and avocado. Extremely fresh tasting and top notch. On the far right is the Double Salmon with Smoked salmon, avocado inside, topped with fresh salmon. I also enjoyed the Spicy tuna roll, Yellowtail tuna roll, Vegetarian roll, and California roll. In order to make my California gluten free, it was served with fresh lump crabmeat instead of the typical Kani. I will request this every time because it was delicious!! My sushi was served with typical white rice but they will make your roll with brown rice/quinoa blend if you ask. In fact, Cowfish's motto is that they will do ANYTHING to please the customer!
Finally, although the appetizers and sides are not center stage, The Cowfish does not slack on ingredients in this area. The shishito peppers and edamame were accompanied with Siracha Sea Salt that truly made their flavors explode. Their seaweed salad is gluten free and contains zero MSG like typical seaweed salads. And don't miss the sweet and spicy cucumber slices...they're one of the most popular sides on the menu!
If you can't make up your mind on sushi or slider, choose one of their Bento Boxes. They are customizable and include 2 side items, a 1/2 sushi roll and a slider. They are perfect for those of us that tend to be indecisive.
Please, do yourself a favor and go try The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar at The Summit. You won't regret it! thecowfish.com/locations/?l=5&c=1
